Kolindros
Kolindros is a small rural municipality (Size
(1000 m²): 124.634) in the foothills of Pieria
range that is the continuation to the north of the Olympous
mountain. It is consisted by five built-up areas, which are:

Kolindros (Seat of the Municipality)
•
Kastania
•
Ryakia
•
Livadi
•
Paliampela
Kolindros land is divided into low-land and
semi-lowland. Its highest altitude is found at the district of
Kastania (340 m.)
In the whole area a temperate climate prevails
and is influenced by the proximity of the region with the sea.
The total population of Kolindros is
approximately 6.500 inhabitants. The economically activate
population reaches the number of 2.037 (38,7%) and unemployment
comes to 3,5 %(with this percentage ascending according to the
reforms of the Common
Agricultural Policy).
The local economy relies on the primary sector
(agriculture and stock rising) with limited forestall resources. The
primary sector reaches the 79.1% of the activate population. In
contrast the participation of the activate population in the
secondary sector is small (12.3%) with a decreasing tendency and in
the tertiary sector although there is a limited participation the
tendency is increasing.
Nature has endowed Kolindros with a unique view
that charms the visitors of this region. The panoramic view is
incomparable and everyone would die to live such an experience.
Kolindros is one of the most active European
municipalities of
Greece
and has acquired huge experience through the implementation of
European programs.
Kolindros also participates in a variety of
European programs of the European Budget, Greek Community Framework
Support and Community Initiatives (Leader).
