Ibanesti
Ibanesti lies at the foot of The Gurghiu Mountains, which are
part of The Romanian Eastern Carpathians. It is the most eastern
place of The Gurghiu Valley.
Ibanesti is a small country municipality that consists of 10
villages: Ibanesti, Ibanesti Padure, Blidireasa, Tisieu, Bradetelu,
Tireu, Pru Mare, Dulcea, Lapusna, Zimti.
The total municipality has 4500 inhabitants and a surface of
313.15 square km; more than 25, 000 ha of this is forest. Therefore,
forestry was and still is an important activity in the region;
animal breeding (especially horned cattle and sheep) also has an
important role in peoples lives.
The beautiful traditional hand-made clothes, interesting traditional
dances, and customs would delight the tourist. People (especially
the old ones) still wear these clothes on Sundays and on special
ceremonies, such as weddings. They have great respect for past and
tradition. Young children, teenagers, and adults keep vividly
everything that comes from their grand-grand parents due to the
activity of the folk dance groups. Old and new is fusing here, in
Ibanesti: you will meet old traditional houses with orchards and
groceries and new, modern villas. The tourist can visit The St.
Nicolas Monastery built in the XVIIIth century, made entirely from
wood, or the Christian churches in the area (four churches are
orthodox and two are Greco-catholic churches).The mansion house can
also be visited; here you will see the furniture made of stag horn.
There are three community centers in Ibanesti, four schools, a
library, a medical emergency center and of course, many shops that
can provide you everything you need.
The fresh air, beautiful mountainous landscapes and delicious
food (cheese and hominy) and drinks invite you to a camp feast here,
in Ibanesti. There is a camp feast: The Gurghiu ValleyThe kings
Valley that takes place every autumn and gathers all the people in
the area, including those from towns (Reghin, Tg.-Mures).
