18-20 October, Tisno
„Bridges connecting libraries“, the first rural communities’ librarians conference began on Friday, the 18th of October with the opening of the exhibition of photographs by Jiří Michlíček from Velké Meziříčí, Czech Republic. Before dinner, participants took part in entertaining ice-breaking activities that sparked their interest to get to know each other better.
On Saturday morning, delegates and other present citizens enjoyed the performance of two local cultural associations – Hartić from Tisno and Zora from Betina by Tisno bridge, after which the official opening moved to the City Hall where the Director of Tisno Public Library Mrs. Silvija Ćurić, the initiator of the conference Ms. Andrea Vlaić, and the Deputy Mayor Mr. Miljenko Meštrov greeted all the delegates and esteemed guests. The Second Vice-president of the Charter of European Rural Communities Ms. Zsuzsanna Lukács, the Head of the Museum and Library Activity Sector of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia Mrs. Jelena Glavić-Perčin and the Director of Juraj Šižgorić City Library Mr. Vilijam Lakić also held short speeches during the opening ceremony.
After the opening, delegations had the opportunity to write down their own verses in a book made especially for this occasion, while the organizers handed them the official presents. Saturday afternoon began with the presentations of both the libraries of the rural municipalities of Europe and those of the host country. After they were introduced to good examples of library work in different rural areas of Europe and projects related to librarianship, our delegates took part in a quiz about writers and their works. The delegation from Ockelbo, Sweden scored the best result. The last afternoon activity sparked the delegates to express their creativity by writing short stories in which they expressed their impressions with the conference and their stay in Tisno. Saturday evening was reserved for gathering of the delegates who were joined by the Charter’s President Mr. Boy Scholtze who has supported the idea of this project since the beginning.
The last day of the “Bridges connecting libraries” conference took our delegates to the City of Šibenik. Before the tour around the city, they visited Juraj Šižgorić City Library where its director Mr. Vilijam Lakić introduced them to the institution, its history and work in the company of his colleagues.
Congratulations and many thanks to Tisno Public Library for initiating and implementing this project with its partners. We believe that this initiative to build friendships through librarianship will continue in the years to come!
