Desborough
attended a community day on Saturday 12th November at
Desborough Library – publicising our activities with the Charter
to the local community. We spoke to a number of families about
the work we do, and the work we also run for the town’s Friends
of Europe group, as well as telling people about the forthcoming
visit to Desborough in just under two weeks.
Ben
Murphy-Ryan, Chairman, was also interviewed live on BBC Radio
Northampton (regional radio reaching up to 600,000 people) about
the Charter visit.
We’re looking
forward to seeing our European friends soon!

Europe - Charter of European Rural Communities (UK Member town)
On Friday 15th July 2011 the Desborough in
Europe group in the UK held a very successful press launch to
publicise the upcoming Charter Workshop, which will be held in
Desborough in November. Local voluntary groups, representatives
of the Borough (municipal) and Town Councils and the local press
were invited to attend and find out more about the plans for the
weekend. Desborough is looking forward to running an enjoyable
weekend with all 27 EU Member States represented through the
Charter, and the theme of the workshops will be the impact of
demographic developments on running Friends of Europe and other
similar volunteer groups. Desborough Chairman, Ben Murphy-Ryan,
was also interviewed on BBC Radio Northampton’s breakfast show
to publicise the work of the Charter in the UK – reaching a
potential regional audience of over 600,000 people! More details
of the visit to Desborough from 24th to 27th November 2011 will
be released shortly, along with the formal invitation to all
Charter countries to take part.

Below you'll find an email from Tiziana
(Bucine) (it has been sent out to all of you) regarding
exchanges of football teams. Please react to Tiziana as soon as
possible.
"Hello friends in the European Charter, the
Municipality of Bucine would like to organize exchanges of young
people who play football in local teams. In Bucine there is a
local football association that is interested in organizing
football matches in different Countries. The boys and girls of
our team are 10-12, about 11 years old and they'll travel with
3/4 trainers. Our local football association can organise the
hospitality for football teams and their trainers that came from
the Municipalities of the Charter. The period of the exchange
could be June/July 2011. If you are interested in our project
you can contact LUCA PIANIGIANI:

Best regards. Tiziana Tinozzi"
We are very pleased that we
have some good news to share with you at the
end of 2010. We received a
great message from the European Commission:
at the second attempt our youngsters program 2011 / 2012
has also been
approved. That means that we have two
separate programmes now with
corresponding funding: one for the adults and one for the
youngsters.
The entire programme
will be executed as described
in newsletter 18 that
you received in September 2010.

We think this is
great news for all of us just before the
winter holidays!
On 17 November the Charter of European Rural Communities
received the Golden Stars Award for Active European Citizenship
for the project “Liveability in European Rural Communities” in
Brussels.
Project Liveability
The municipality Haaren, which has mayor Frans Ronnes
as chairman of the Charter, appealed to a subsidy from the
“Europe for Citizens” programme for 2009 and 2010 for the
so-called “Multi Annual Project”. The subsidy was granted and it
comprised a financial contribution of the EU for ten Charter
meetings with the central theme: “Liveability in European Rural
Communities”. During these two years several meetings were held,
spread over Europe. The meetings included two big network meetings,
two youth meetings, and one meeting with the “Friends of Europe”
committees which are active in several of the connected
villages. Four meetings handled the subject: involvement with
local democracy and the final meeting was an exchange about how
elderly people live in the different parts of Europe. This last meeting was also the start for the
meetings in 2011 and 2012 which will have “Demographic
development in rural areas of Europe” as its central theme.
Golden Star
The European Commission decided to award the Charter
with the Golden Star for Active European Citizenship for the
Multi Annual Project during 2009 and 2010. The presentation
ceremony was held in Brussels at 17 November.
In a packed “Concert Noble” the Charter’s president, Frans
Ronnes, who was surrounded by representatives of nearly all 27
Charter villages, received the Golden Stars Award on behalf of
the Charter. All Charter members received a certificate that
showed the recognition for the project and the award for the
Golden Star. Two Charter youth members, Nathan from Nadir (Malta)
and Isabelle from Zagreb (Lithuania) added
extra lustre to the evening when they climbed on stage and sang
fantastically the song: A moment like this.
After the official ceremony appetizers and drinks were
served in “Concert Noble”. The winners had the opportunity to
toast on their success and to enjoy the awarded recognition. The
winning of the Award is a great honour for the Charter and this
will deepen the already strong mutual bonds between the members.
